The Islander Magazine

The Islander magazine is all about life on the Isles of Scilly and is published by our Bryher office twice a year. Launched in March 2008 it has flourished, due to a strong and varied editorial style, outstanding photography, excellent design and a high quality print specification. The magazine is A4 format and printed onto environmentally friendly paper.

The Islander Magazine offers a varied and well presented content with features covering history, nature, plants, art, business and produce as well as stories about the Islanders themselves. We have fishing, boating, cooking, sailing, gardening, walking, farming, rowing, bird watching, painting and jewellery-making to name but a few of the articles.

The Islander has widespread appeal to islanders, ex inhabitants of the islands, visitors or anyone thinking of a visit to offer a flavour of the community.

Our editor Alasdair Moore lives on Tresco and has worked in the Abbey Gardens, which inspires the regular feature, Tresco Treasures- profiling the gardens extensive range of flora and fauna with Alasdair’s expertise in botany. Alasdair has previously written for the Independent, Sunday Times, Sunday Telegraph, and Gardens Illustrated. Alasdair is also the author of ‘La Mortola-in the steps of Thomas Hanbury’ written about a beautiful garden which is in Italy close to the Riviera border with France.

Apart from the inspired journalism, the magazine is beautifully composed in full colour glossy pages and embellished with exquisite photography by Adam White.  Adam has recently won a BAFTA for his production work on ‘Life in Cold Blood’ the BBC series on which he worked with David Attenborough.
