A Blog from Bryher

Bryher's annual fete was held on 7th August, raising funds for the community centre which provides a fantastic wet weather option for visitors including board games, table tennis and soft play for little ones. In validation of the facility, the heavens opened on the afternoon of the festivities but the event was no wash-out, as visitors huddled under umbrellas to hear the raffle being called and a great profit was made for the cause.

There's a buzz on Bryher surrounding the brand new Bryher Shop and Post Office, which has an extraordinary range of products from locally made confectionery to all your family favourite brands. Join the queue early as freshly baked loaves, rolls, cakes and pastries are sold out by midday! You will find all the essential items for your holiday on Bryher from instant BBQs, buckets and spades to fresh fruit and vegetables. To make it easy to plan your self catering holiday on the island, pre-order your groceries by email- the shop has a website which details all products stocked. The new multi-use games area has also opened on Bryher recently and provides facility for tennis, basketball and 5 a side football; sessions can be booked through Hell Bay Hotel reception.

The first few blackberries are ripening on the hedgerows of Bryher this week ( delicious to add to a fruit pie or crumble!) and the agapanthus are still in full flower too - a well loved sight in Scilly.
